The WORD
Morning by morning, Night after night
God’s word and light, I study each day
Hope and life, it gives a’ fresh
Soothing, calmly, my thirsty soul
Deep in me, down in me
Runs a desire, ... for this daily dose
For mysteries, gradually, I begin to unravel
Explanations, solutions I begin to find
An hour, then two, and then another
Lost in love and stories untold, BUT
Found in the present world of reality
Activities, essentials I must answer to
Volume of books and arcade of tests
Calling, nudging to get my time
TIME a student must give to them
What will my savior have me do?
Things to Ceaser, to Ceaser I will give
Things of God, to him I will tender
There is time for everything
Proper balance, the word instills
His spirit guiding us through it all
"What will my Saviour have me do?"
This was the question on my lips when I wrote this poem in 2013. I was an undergraduate student surrounded by a lot of homework, labs, and exams ( 2nd year of college, I think ). I was also a growing Christian who wanted to spend quality time reading his bible ( in-depth bible study takes time). I gave my life to Jesus in my first year of college. You can imagine my eagerness and joy to learn and know more about my newfound love. Was it okay to read my bible when I had not done my homework and had a test the next day? Was it okay to spend all my evenings attending to my academics and neglecting my bible? What will my savior have me do?
I recall speaking to a few friends, my parents, and a pastor about this new challenge. I knew I had to do both; the question was, in what order? They all gave the same advice: You need to learn to balance your time.
Funny enough, that advice is still applicable to me today. While I no longer have exams and tests to battle with, I now have deadlines from my job. I have a family that wants my time. I also have a lot of other activities demanding my time. What will my savior have me do?
There will always be activities and essentials to answer to. There is a level that you get to in your walk with God where bible study moves from being a burden to something that you enjoy and spend a lot of time without even knowing it. Still, that is not an excuse to become earthly irrelevant. I believe that the Men that God is raising in this end-time generation are men who are at their best in their place of work and also burning for God and doing exploits.
What usually happens is that when we waste time ( doing somethings or lazying around ). The easiest place to get that time back is usually in our bible reading and prayer. We console ourselves with the phrase" God Understands."
We do not cut our sleep time or fun time. We cut our God time. God should be the one to pay for our lack of time management.
I will end this article with the last part of that poem.
The word instills proper balance.
Things to Ceaser, to Ceaser I will give
Things of God, to him I will tender
There is time for everything
Proper balance, the word instills
His spirit guiding us through it all
