He Quits
Carefully, slowly
The loop, he knots
Quietly, gently
The hold, he ascends
The world
He never conquered
Himself…
He never believed
Hope?
He wholly despised
In, goes the head
Off, ensues the legs
Far away, he drifts
Free from all…
Free of all
[ Only if Judas Iscariot had waited three more days.
I believe that He jumped the gun. Suicide is never an option.]
Today is Good Friday.
The event that happened on this day is one of the most important foundations of Christianity. Jesus died for our sins. He took our place on the cross and gave me and you a chance and shot at eternity with God the Father. Through Adam, Sin came to be with all mankind, and our relationship with God was severed. Jesus came to restore that bridge, and his death on the cross sealed our hope and made it a reality.
One of the stories that also raises a lot of questions when the sacrifice of Jesus is told is the story and death of Judas Iscariot. Judas was one of the disciples of Jesus and was the one who sold Jesus, his master to his enemies for 30 pieces of Silver. Many scholars believe that Judas never believed that Jesus could be easily captured, not to talk of him being killed. He just wanted to make some easy and quick money because he thought Jesus would easily escape. Jesus was the son of God.
We do not know how Judas felt when Jesus was captured. We do not know how he felt when he heard that he was tortured and would be killed. When he saw that things were going out of hand, he became very remorseful and tried to return the money. Of course, the deed was already done. The bible said he dropped the money at the temple, went out, and hanged himself.
Only if Judas had waited 3 more days. What Judas did not know was that the forgiveness and repentance he indeed sought were just 3 days away. Jesus was going to rise again. Not only would that free him from the guilt of having caused his death, Jesus would have fought death and won the battle for all mankind. Man would be free from the shackles and condemnation of sin. Judas jumped the gun. He killed himself.
No matter the condition, Suicide is never the answer. The truth is that there will always be someone who has it worse than you do. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Your miracle and opportunity might be just a few days away. Do not jump the gun. Do not be like Judas. Wait it out.
