Christian Companionship
Like you…? Am not!
Unlike me…? You are!
One thing, but we share
LIFE, in the Christian fold
I Spend, I fritter, I use
You are wise, prudent and make do
Fun and gay, most things I take
Thriftily, frugal you answer to
Loads and lots fade off my mind
To Details facets, you tightly cling
Dirty and unkept, sometimes I become
Clean and tidy you always are
Conclusions, fast I make
Decisions, promptly I take
But you…, ponder and consider
Plan, before the leap
Slowly, I begin to realize
As fondly, the shepherd nudges
“You are not complete
That’s your other half”
You, gradually I transmute.
Me, steadily, you transform
God complimenting us both
As we build a happy home
This is another one of my poem. ( I am currently going through an archive of some of my previous poems and reflecting on them) I wrote this poem in 2012 as an undergraduate. I was single ( I paused and smiled as I remember my single days ) A lot has changed since I wrote this poem and my understanding of christian companionship has blossomed more. I was friends with my wife for 3 years. We became engaged for another 3 years and after marriage, we have celebrted 3 years anniversary ( That is 9 yuears of experience ) I am going to break down that poem line by line and reflect on what is true, what is no longer true and what is partially true.
Like you…? Am not!
Unlike me…? You are!
One thing, but we share
LIFE, in the Christian fold
We cannot over emphsize the importance of marring someone in the fold. Paul said it, Never be yoked with an unbeliver.
